THE INSPIRATION

The inspiration behind Play2Give is a charity champ himself, and he's only 20 - Andrew Baker!

Andrew from Didcot has been an inspirational ambassador for the new Oxford Children's Hospital ever since he received life-saving surgery in 2001 to have a brain tumour removed.

Andrew, a former St Birinus School Didcot pupil, has raised over £16,000 for CHOx since he began fund-raising when the campaign to raise £15m for the charity launched in 2002.  He has also raised hundreds of pounds for other charities locally since setting up Play2Give last year, and will have raised well over £17,000 by the end of this year.  In total he's raised £17,900 for many charities to date.

Andrew has been awarded a Local Hero by Fox FM, nominated in Britain's Most Inspiring Fundraiser award run by The Sun newspaper and a runner-up in the 2007 Deutsche Bank Spotlight Awards, rewarded by Ben Shephard of GMTV.

"Andrew has been extremely supportive of the children's hospital and has inspired people to raise money. We're so grateful for his hard work and dedication. We continue to be amazed at Andrew's ongoing efforts" - Penny, CHOX

Andrew has done everything for CHOx from raising funds to initiating the support of his schools, raising awareness every step along the way with media attention, and appearing at some local events such as the Didcot '5' and '2-Mile' fun run event last summer sounding the starting horn for 300 runners - and appearing at special award ceremonies.

So, Andrew along with his friend from school Nathan wanted to set up a football tournament to benefit others, and this is the legacy.

Andrew is also a very close supporter of the Help an Oxfordshire Child charity - and believes helping the children who need it most is the best thing about this tournament!  Andrew has crusaded many amazing activities & many amazing people in his fund-raising endeavours, and as the motto goes, 'once a fundraiser, always a fundraiser' - that's certainly true and Play2Give has now become an established figure in his long list of events!

"Abingdon town Amateur Boxing Club would like to let other people know just how amazing Andrew is. He has been through so much, yet wants to help others. He really is an inspiration and is Number 1 in our book.

To us, he really is the most inspiring fundraiser.

Keep up the good work Andrew. Love Alison and the rest of the Fundraising Committee. xxx"
