Surely the most beautiful city in the world! Not the flattest or fastest course, but the most interesting and monumental marathon running can offer. Where else can you start in the shadow of the ore inspiring Colosseum? From there head out through narrow tyre smoothed cobbled roads at a steady runner traffic pace, speeding up as crowds roar you on, weaving through enchanting streets, heading an approach to the Vatican city just hours before the Pope performs his weekly address to the masses? You won’t find the last few miles easy; takes your last ounce of energy to return triumphantly, crossing the line back at the foot of the Colosseum. This is a truly a 5 STAR event and of all the marathon’s comes top of my recommendation list; not least because there’s still so much more about this amazing city to fall in love with after race day.
