The Challenge:

The challenge kicks off with a midmorning meet at an agreeable location. The minibus journey flies by with chatter amongst new hiking companions full of anticipation for the adventure ahead. We arrive in beautiful North Wales and discover the foot of Snowdon, our first mountain climb. It’s wide, well maintained Miners’ Track leads gently around the reservoir of Llyn Llydaw, crossing the causeway and climbing the northern tip of Glaslyn. Well maintained, the original, steep mountain track was laid in the 1880s to service the construction of an observatory, now no more than a badly derelict building. Steep zig-zags meet the Pyg Track from Llanberis culminating in a short walk to our first summit nestling amongst the clouds.

Rough Guide: 2hr climb, 2hr descent.

After a quick decent, it’s east to discover the hidden wonders and picturesque twisty lanes, leading to Scafell Pike. Amidst the stunning peaks of the western Lake District, Scafell, the highest mountain in England, surprises walkers with its rocky, unrelenting, steep and rugged paths. Undoubtedly the toughest part of the test, often engulfed by mist and with the early part of our climb covered in darkness giving way to sunrise by the time we summit.

Rough guide: 2.5 hour climb, 1.5 hour descent.

With two down and the finish in site, the route heads North into Scotland and the highland town of Fort William. Up 1344 meters to take in the view from Britain’s highest point; the summit plateau of mighty Ben Nevis, the ultimate goal, our third and final peak completed just in time for an evening meal, celebration and well earned highland night’s sleep.

Rough guide: 2.5 hour climb, 2.5 hour descent.
